I am glad you are doing a photo blog of Nantes. In 2004 I toured the Loire Valley and spent three days in Nantes. It is a beautiful city.
I have a special interest in the artist and naturalist John James Audubon -- a child of Nantes. I visited the Natural History Museum, where he studied birds as a young boy, and La Gerbetiere, his family's country home near Nantes. Maybe some day you will show us a photo of La Gerbetiere and the marshes (marais) that surround it.
I am not a photo blogger, but my wife is; she does Sharon CT Daily Photo.
Your "scruffy" bird was a Grey Heron (Heron Gris).
Visual Poetry ? At least, a attempt.

This entrance is so interesting! I wonder how they made it?
